Blue and Yellow Macaw

  Blue and Yellow Macaw

The Blue and Yellow Macaw, Ara ararauna, is the large parrot most commonly seen in captivity in the United States. Although they have suffered both habitat loss and persecution they are not presently threatened with extinction. Blue-and-yellow Macaws occur from eastern Panama and the tropical lowlands of South America to southeastern Brazil and Bolivia. While we were watching a Hyacinth Macaw nearby, a pair flew to the tree almost directly beside our vehicle.
